Director’s Notes
“DiNcAnTo. Passi di danza sull’opera Belliniana” Omaggio al belcanto Belliniano is a danced path that emerges from the suggestions and visions of an enchanted land, characterized by natural elements on which the great Sicilian musician nourished himself during his intense, albeit short, musical career. Four sopranos “The DIV4S”, four female characters: Norma, Giulietta, Amina, Elvira. Four elements to represent Bellini’s Sicily: the water of the sea that accompanied him throughout his youth, but also the tumultuous and fearsome sea of his first journey to Naples; the Air with the extraordinary scents of a unique land, the air that draws with the clouds above the Volcano; the Earth, with its fruits full of color and flavour, the land of ineradicable roots; the Fire of an indomitable Volcano, which becomes Norma’s sacred fire and which finally becomes the inner fire of the disease that devoured him, concluding with Casta Diva as a sacred song that accompanies Bellini’s return trip to the Motherland. These elements, a source of life, will give the public back the mind and heart of a great musician whose art continues to enchant audiences from all over the world, between immensity and beauty. DiNcAnTo is a journey through Bellini’s immortal melodies, a stylistic one that superimposes the female characters of his works with the women he really loves. From the nocturnal and dreamlike world of Sonnambula to the splendor of Parisian life, from the never happy love passions to the sacrificial ritual of Norma, this show develops in a whirlwind of images, notes and dance steps, playing with the styles and suggestions that arise from sublime and timeless music. A new production path that aims to bring the world of opera closer to and make known to the young dance audience, which Balletto di Roma has always addressed by promoting the excellence of contemporary languages through unique reinterpretations of classics that are part of the long and important tradition of repertoire ballet. The show is the result of an artistic-productive synergy between two renowned institutions: the Roman one with over sixty years of history behind it and the Messina one, meeting point and cultural docks of a city ready to relaunch with vigor and strength in the post-pandemic new and interesting artistic projects in the perspective of contamination and hybridity of artistic forms.
The representation of the show can be carried out in collaboration with stable orchestras present in the various national and international territories through programmable artistic agreements during the various theatrical seasons.
